What are Fibroids?

Uterine fibroids (leiomyomata) are benign, hormone sensitive, tumors that grow inside the myometrium. They are very common in premenopausal women and are associated with abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB), often with iron-deficiency anemia, pain and infertility. These symptoms often require surgical intervention, like the drastic hysterectomy (i.e. removal of the uterus) or hormonal treatments that have heavy and quality-of-life impacting side effects.

What is Womed working on?

There is an urgent need for a medical treatment of fibroids.

Womed is developing a targeted, low dose, intrauterine system to deliver a selective progesterone receptor modulator and reduce the abnormal bleeding associated with fibroids.
